RM XP. But for a beginner, I would recommend RM2k3.

Well, the thing is, RMXP is like RM2k3 squared. It's similar, but it's got way more advanced features, and of course the engine script editor.

- RMXP has a bottom, middle, top, and event layer. RM2K3 only has bottom, top, and event. - RMXP has more commands, plus it has the Ruby script thing. - RMXP has better-made RTP, if you're that kind that can't be bothered to have custom sets. - I personally think RM2K3 has a better DBS. - RMXP has pretty much all the commands avaible if you put code in the monster groups, while RM2K3 provides around 1/4 of the commands in monster group coding. - MIDIs are played with higher-detail instruments through RMXP. - RMXP has a feature in which you can set a BGM and a BGSFX. - And much much more.
RMXP is definatly better.

*continues* - RMXP has way more battle system capabilities - Two player mode is easier to program - (addition) Through Ruby, the whole game can be two player - There's scripts on the net for everything you could want - Enter Hero Name system actually works - Cooler logo - DB, for XP, though a little less expansive, is easier to use I agree... XP is way better ;D

Enter Hero name works on RM2K3 with a patch.
- RMXP doesn't need Enter Hero Name patch. - RMXP doesn't need the MP3 patch. - RMXP CharSets can be any size as long as the dimensions are divisible by 4.
