If your using custom sprites, the background on the file itself should by pure white, then save it on your computer somewhere. in RMXP, go to tools > Resource Manager. There choose your charsets, and click import. Choose the charset file and click on the BG once, then somewhere on the char, then click ok. Now try them.

Actually, the background should just be a color that isn't anywhere on the charset.

A few words about the background:
1. It should be a color NOT found anywhere else in the sprite outside of the background itself.
2. When importing a new charset (as in, one that you've made or downloaded) while in the resource manager, make sure when you have the sprite preview to LEFT-click on the background part. You should see the color of the background in the corresponding box at the bottom of the window.
3. If this does not work, try with the default sprites.
4. If it still shows up, it's a technical error, most likely stemming from your video card. You could fiddle with the settings (not recommended) make sure your drivers are updated, and that the card is compatible. You may also try reinstalling RMXP.
